Romanticism (French romantisme) is an ideological and artistic trend that developed in the late 18th - early 19th centuries, opposing the canons of classicism and characterized by the desire to depict ideal characters and feelings. It has become widespread in the art and literature of most European countries, including Russia, as well as in the literature of the United States. European romanticism arose after the French bourgeois revolution and relied on the philosophy of Hegel, Fichta and Shereng, which were based on idealistic views and their discord with social reality.
