Russia and Iran in the Syrian settlement: strategic partnership or tactical union?

The author considers Russian-Iranian relations in the context of the settlement of the Syrian conflict. The author thinks that since the beginning of the Syrian crisis, relations between the two countries have been entered a new phase of development. Russia is leading the comprehensive development of cooperation with the Islamic Republic of Iran. The main hypothesis of the author is that the relations between Russia and Iran can be a form of strategic partnership, but at this moment, there are a number of obstacles, such as the ideology of the Islamic state, the lack of unity in the country's political elite concerning Russia, the inflexibility of Iranian diplomacy.
