Russia as a civilization state: on the issue of the conceptual vision of the country’s role in the doctrinal documents of state strategic planning

The article presents the evolution of views on Russia's place in the world and its cultural and historical essence, recorded in the doctrinal documents of state strategic planning. The author marks the transition from a Western-centric worldview focused on integration with the West to the formulation of tasks of sovereign original development for the achievement of which the conceptual provisions of the civilizational approach and the thesis of Russia as a civilization state were introduced into the official narrative. The conceptual complexity of the civilizational approach using is stated due to the crisis phenomena historically inherent in the Russian national identity, characterized by S. Huntington as «torn» one as a result of centuries-old modernization based on westernization. The author notes the potential of the civilizational direction of research in order to protect national interests, strengthen national security and sovereignty, and long-term development of Russia.
