The article is devoted to the problem of separatist sentiments among the Muslim population of Russian Turkestan. The author notes that separatism, as a phenomenon of socio-historical development, found expression on the territory of the Russian Empire, in particular, in its regions in Central Asia. It indicates that the growth of separatist sentiments among Muslims of Russian Turkestan was largely facilitated by the agency of German, Turkish and Afghan special services. The Turkestan «okhranka» struggled with these sentiments, but could not completely eradicate them. The author concludes that they seriously complicated the establishment of the tsarist government in Russian Turkestan.
