Russian criminology: history and modernity

The article deals with the periodization of the development of domestic criminology, reveals the content of the main stages of its development. The interrelation of criminology with literary and artistic understanding of offender’s personality, causes of crime and ways of its prevention are reflected. The contribution of outstanding criminologists is shown, perspective directions of further development of the science are allocated.
