The Russian hotel business - the state, problems and prospects of development in the modern period of the economy

The article analyzes the state and dynamics of the hotel sector since 2010 in the whole of the Russian Federation and in the regional context. The main problems that have arisen in the development of this business during the pandemic and sanctions restrictions are considered. The purpose of the study is to identify trends in the development of the hotel industry and domestic tourism and ways to solve modern problems of this business, both in Russia and abroad. The author has carried out a fairly detailed analysis of statistical data on the dynamics of the number of hotels, the number of places, the number of people accommodated from 2020 to 2022 in Russia as a whole. The reasons for the decline in these indicators and the growth trends of the hotel business in 2022-2023 are noted. The indicators of the growth of the volume of hotel services in the context of federal districts and individual regions are studied in more detail, conclusions are drawn about the most dynamically developing tourist clusters, such as Baikal, Kamchatka, the Republic of Tatarstan, the Kaliningrad region, etc. The latest results of the work of hotels in the cities of Moscow and St. Petersburg are also considered in more detail. Promising directions of hotel business development both in Russia and abroad are given: “green” marketing, creation of a common information and communication space, personalization of services, introduction of advanced technologies, etc.
