Mongolian studies in Russia and France: personnels, trends, scientific ties

The article presents the characteristics and peculiarities of the relations between the Western and the Eastern world in the Modern Age. We analyze the reasons for high level of development of Russian Oriental and Mongolian studies, in particular. The main attention is paid to the formation and development of Oriental studies in France and description of the major French orientalists. We also have shown the scientific ties of the orientalists of the two countries.
