The Russian risk society: the modern concept

The article deals with the state of modern Russian social reality. Today, the problem of risk has acquired the status of a universal problem. The risk extends to the activities of the whole society, thus determining the risk of social life. Modern Russian society is not only a society of knowledge, high technologies, services, but also a risk society. The theoretical aspects of the latter phenomenon are developed in the works of foreign scientists, namely N. Luman, E. Giddens, and W. Beck. The author calls and examines in detail the internal and external factors that determine the classification of Russia as the risk society. In addition, the author notes that at present the risks of decision-making processes (political, economic, and social) and technological risks have joined the traditional risks. The author concludes that institutional changes and fundamental changes in Russia are characterized by instability and irreversibility. The crisis of the system leads to the growth of new risks in the society.
