Growth of ball-rooted spruce seedlings on different substrates in a nursery in the Arkhangelsk region

The article discusses the characteristics of Finnish and Russian-made peat substrates for growing containerized seedlings. An assessment of the fractional composition, and a chemical analysis of the media, was carried out. Particular attention is paid to the growth dynamics of spruce seedlings on the substrates under consideration during the growing season. It was found that the seedlings grew more actively on the domestically produced substrate, but in September their parameters were equal to those of the plants on the Finnish substrate, therefore the «Veltorf» substrate is a worthy replacement for the substrate produced in Finland.
