The article examines the results of surveys given to students at Russian, Ukrainian, and US universities, in order to determine which authors and works these students prefer to read. These universities are located in strikingly different locales and have varying academic profiles. The article focuses on results dealing with Russian authors and their works. These results suggest the differences and affinities concerning reading practices in the three countries; likewise, the analysis shows the enduring place of Russian literature of the 19th and 20th centuries in today’s cultures, regardless of national traditional and historical connections to Russia.
