This article is the first part of a cycle of three articles devoted to Orthodox biblical studies in the USSR. Based on the analysis of publications on biblical studies in Soviet times, a conclusion is drawn about a certain periodic patern in the style and content of the articles. Tis patern is associated with the reign of the next actual head of the USSR, the General Secretary of the CPSU Central Commitee, since each of them had his own policy towards the Church. Te article deals with the period from 1922 to 1953, and the main atention is paid to the time of the reign of J. V. Stalin. It is noted that the opportunity not only to conduct biblical studies but also to publish their results appeared in the USSR only in 1943, afer the publication of the “Journal of the Moscow Patriarchate” was resumed. On the examples of specific articles, it is shown that mainly in the historical period under consideration, descriptive publications predominate, and only at the end of it there are scientific articles
Bibleism, ussr, i. v. stalin, leningrad teological academy, the journal of the moscow patriarchate, archbishop luka (voino-yasenetsky), metropolitan nicholay (yarushevich), metropolitan sergiy (stragorodsky), metropolitan alexy (simansky)
