The paper is concerned with the literary and social process of Russia in the third part of the XIX century. Fyodor Dostoevsky's speech about Alexander Pushkin that was delivered in June 1880 triggered a heated publicistic discussion on the historic fate of Russia. The views of F.M.Dostoevsky, K.N.Leontyev and V.S.Solovyev taken together form a theological basis of that discussion. At the same time, the development of Dostoevsky's thoughts enabled his followers to work out their own conception of the Russian idea that in many respects determined the subsequent philosophic searches of Russian literature.
