The article contains analysis of the relations between Russia and Prussia in 1740-50 th. Both states at the same time entered the circle of the great European powers, and their interests in Eastern Europe began to collide with each other. The conflicts of interests had led to the open military confrontation between Russia and Prussia in Seven Years' War (1756-1763) which created an opportunity to deprive Prussia of its great power status and to put an end to its contention with Russia.
