Article devoted to the anniversary of the Institute, gives information about its becoming, development and work at the moment. The dynamics of departmental affiliation and completed tasks on the stages of development. The authors highlighted the pre-war period, the work during the Great PatrioticWar, in the postwar period. Much attention is paid to the implementation of R & D during the perestroika period to the present time. There is a clear continuity of scientific studies over the 80-year period. The article tells about the scientists working at the Institute over the years and their practical contribution to the scientific and technical development of the forestry sector, the theory of Forest Science, Forestry and practice of national forestry. Over the long-term and fruitful work the Institute was awarded in 1983 the Order of the Red Banner of Labor, and in 2003 - recognized as the best research and development organization of the Moscow region.The institute carries out work in the following areas of research: forest policy, regulatory and legal and technical support forestry, strategic planning, program development of the forest complex, forestry in terms of technogenic and radioactive pollution, forest engineering, testing, certification, standardization, innovation, international cooperation.The main task of the Institute for the near future is the study of R & D on these main areas.
