Sayansk campaign of Kravchenko - Shchetinkin insurgent army (June-July, 1919): strategy, challenges and tactical decisions

The purpose of the research was to present the results of the study of chronological stages of the campaign, the routes of the movement, individual tactical decisions of the command in the context of the approach to Sayan campaign as a raid by partisan army on the enemy’s rear in the process of the formation of a new fighting strategy. The urgency of addressing this topic was due to the 100-th anniversary of the events of civil war. The battles for survival, wearisome march, the highest mobility at extreme limitation of record keeping of the staff and command were the reasons of the absence of documents of the period of the campaign. Therefore, the most important were archival documents of personal origin: memories, recordings of partisans’ and old-timers’ interviews. These were both archival and field research materials of the author in 1970-1980. In total, the documents of 12 funds of Krasnoyarsk, Minusinsk, Achinsk, Kuragino, Karatuz archives had been worked out.
