The author of this article considers an important historical, ecclesiastical and religious studies topic: the analysis of the socio-psychological aspects of the myth of “Leninist religiosity” and its perception, both by contemporaries of the Bolshevik leader and by our contemporaries. The author shows how the tale about Lenin’s original atheism was used by the Soviet ideological machine in order to create a new myth, in which Lenin occupied the place of the “savior” and “leader” of the human masses, a kind of “communist messiah”. The article shows how and why such a substitution took place, in which the desired “bright future” promised by the Bolsheviks was inextricably linked with the personality of the “sacred” Bolshevik leader. The author tries to prove that the myth of “Leninist religiosity” should be understood in the context of the “communist fairy tale” consciously created in the Soviet era, as a kind of ideological simulacrum, replacing the high religious ideals so necessary for man with its own fake quasi-religious ideology.
