The study covers the period from 1939 to 1945 inclusively and is devoted to the history of the Salekhard Agricultural Zonal Experimental Station - one of the first scientific institutions of the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug. The attraction of new, previously unpublished archival materials allowed us to expand knowledge about the operation of the station during this period. It is established that the vector of scientific developments and methods of the station were determined according to the plan of the Research Institute of Polar Agriculture, Animal Husbandry and Fisheries of the People's Commissariat of grain and livestock state farms of the USSR, which was changed to meet the needs of the region at the meetings of the Yamalo-Nenets Okrug Executive Committee. The main purpose of the station's researches was to create a full-fledged scientific base for the development of polar agriculture in the region. To achieve this goal, scientists conducted tests of the most promising plant varieties and soil studies, and carried out the experiments on the use of fertilizers available in the Okrug.
