Concrete is one of the most common building materials in the world, due to its strength and not expensive production. It consists of a binder (cement), large and small fillers, water. As the concrete hardens and becomes brittle under the action of loads in it there are cracks, which are an open way to move moisture. After a series of cycles of freezing and thawing, the cracks expand and then the water reaches the reinforcement and initiates corrosion. Rust occupies a larger volume than the reinforcing material (reinforcement) and the concrete begins to crack and delaminate. Cracks of different sizes have to be removed manually, which is a laborious and expensive process. And it is not always possible to fix this problem in a timely manner. And self-healing concrete is a revolutionary building material, able to solve all these problems and, of course, it is the building material of the future.
