Self-employment in the Russian economy and the Kemerovo region-Kuzbass: trends and prospects

Бесплатный доступ

Since 2019 a special tax regime “tax on professional income” has been in effect in Russia. And if in the beginning the attitude to it was cautiously negative, recently there has been a rapid growth in the number of self-employed people. On the territory of Kemerovo region-Kuzbass this tax regime was introduced two years ago. During this time there has been an almost fivefold increase in the number of people who have registered this tax regime, and the growth rate is higher than the national average. Individuals show the greatest interest in it, while only five percent of entrepreneurs have taken advantage of this opportunity. This phenomenon certainly has a positive impact on the economy in the short term, but in the long term it can be associated with the risks of additional burden on the budget, in this connection it is necessary to pay attention not only to the involvement of the population in self-employment, but also to increasing its economic literacy and the formation of pension savings of the self-employed.
