The article analyses the image of Sancho Panza in M. Bulgakov’s play «Don Quixote» as the image of an emotional double of Don Quixote and carnival «jester», changing cynical, sentimental and epic masks in the play and contributing to testing and approving of the ideal of knightly service of Don Quixote as a creative person, spiritual freedom and responsibility of the artist for his actions. As the carrier of a grotesque component and the laughter overcoming the evil Sancho-trickster in the parody of the ideal comically eliminates the conflict of the opposing values of dream and reality, reviving and renewing eternal truths.
