The article continues the topic of the prehistory of the Missionary Society in St. Petersburg, but it is the first publication about the planned organizations that could be an analogue of the Missionary Society if implemented. The author of the article describes an attempt to establish the St. Petersburg Orthodox Church Brotherhood as a church-public organization, which could, among other things, finance church missions. After a general introduction to the history of Missionary Society and features of the mood of the St. Petersburg public, the author traces the historical relationship between the attempt to establish the Brotherhood in 1864 and the activity of the Missionary Society. Then, one of the draft variants of this Brotherhood is analyzed in detail as a possible source of the charter of the Missionary Society. The evolution of the missionary theme in different versions of the Brotherhood project is separately disclosed, because this theme was not central for the drafters, and in the final version of the project there is no mention of missionary funding. As a result, a conclusion is made that the charter and activity of the Missionary Society in 1865-1869 are significantly dependent on the ideas that the initiators of the Brotherhood expressed in the project of this planned organization.
