Sedimentological marker of the Hangenberg global geological event (Devonian - carboniferous boundary) in the sections of western slope of Subarctic and Southern parts of the Urals

Бесплатный доступ

In the carbonate formations at the contact between Devonian and Carboniferous layers on the western slope of the Urals, there is a clay horizon characterized by a variety of structure, composition and genesis of the clayey component with values of 8 13С and 8 18О are being proximal. The time of its formation chronologically coincide with the time of the Hangenberg global geological event (HGGE). The interval of the clay horizon is considered as a sedimentological marker of HGGE. Its formation took place at the geodynamic plume-riftogenic stage of a mantle plume magmatism and volcano-tectonic activation as a part of the main stage of Famennian riftogenic phase which caused a tectonic (the Subarctic Urals) and a paleogeographical (the Southern Urals) event and the formation of the clay horizon.
