Secularization of monastic landholdings in the united principality of Wallachia and Moldavia under prince Alexander Cuza (1859-1866)

The present article discusses the question of the secularization of monastic properties in the United Principality of Wallachia and Moldavia in the context of the foreign policy of the Russian Empire in the Balkans. Special attention is drawn to the role of Russian diplomatic representatives and the degree to which they participated in the events considered.
