Plant breeding is always associated with selection and depends on both the genotype and the phenotype reaction. Studies were conducted in conditions of insufficient and unstable moisture, the object was yellow mustard. This species is an optional self-pollinator with a xenogamy percentage of 1.7 to 45 % depending on the genotype and growing conditions. The production of self-pollinated lines of mustard yellow becomes important in the selection, because it occurs in heterogeneous populations. Evaluation of the lines can be carried out in the early stages of inoculation, as this type does not show significant depression. Studies are aimed at the selection of lines that exceed the source material in productivity and other economic characteristics. The article analyzes the variability of the number of seeds under insulators depending on the weather conditions of mustard cultivation. The maximum number of seeds under the insulator was obtained by self-pollination in the first 2 weeks of flowering with sparse sowing. The variability of oil content of seeds (from 24.8 to 49.2%) obtained by self-pollination under contrasting conditions is shown. Selected and evaluated promising for breeding of linear material mustard sareptana on major economic traits, as well as their combination. There were 9 lines that significantly exceed the standard for yield, oil content of seeds and oleic acid in the oil, as well as lines that combine a set of features. The selected linear material of mustard sareptana is important and serves as the basis for obtaining the source material and varieties in the selection of the main economically valuable features.
