Selection value of promising varieties of Sudan grass in the FGBNU "Povolzhsky NIISS"

Sudanese grass is the main crop among annual forage plants. It is used for green feed, hay, haylage, for the production of vitamin and herbal flour and silage. It makes good use of precipitation in the second half of summer and is able to provide animal farming feed in the dry and hot season. Drought-resistant, well-growing after grazing or mowing, it is a particularly valuable forage crop in the dry zones of our country, where with it on productivity of the feeding weight can not compete with any other culture. The article reflects the results of breeding work on the creation and study of new early-ripening, high-yielding, with good quality green mass varieties of Sudanese grass (L-100-10, L-50-10, L-3-12, L-46-13, L-99-13), requiring for maturation the amount of active temperatures to 19000s, which makes it possible to complete the harvesting of testes at the end of August, and to provide in the conditions of Samara and neighboring regions annual aging of seeds.
