The article carries out a historical analysis of the selfmade phenomenon as an existential model of human activity. The authors study in detail biographies of F. Douglas and B. Franklin as classic examples of selfmade philosophy. The basic qualities of a self-made man are emphasized, such as: courage, motivation, activity, perseverance, hard work and personal responsibility. The authors deny the role of luck as a fundamental factor in the practice of self-made.
