Semantic derivation of English relative adjectives

The study expands and clarifies the knowledge of about the semantics of predicate words. A comprehensive semantic-cognitive analysis was carried out, summarizing the conclusions obtained in the framework of the diachronic analysis of the transformations of linguistic meanings and their cognitive interpretation. Definitional analysis, contextual analysis method based on corpus data were used. Results of the research: The semantic processes of two groups of relative denominal adjectives of the English language were analyzed. The theoretical significance of the study consists in deepening the understanding of the semantics of the predicate vocabulary, the specifics of the mechanisms of semantic transformations of various types of predicate words.
