Spheres of activity of postnominal relatives: types of contexts

Бесплатный доступ

Auxiliary characteristics in neoformations of the preposition type manifest in their ability to organize syntactic constructions and express certain types of syntactic relations. The establishment of the sphere of activity of such neoformations, which are called postnominal relatives, permits to address the concept of typical context. A typical context is viewed as a semantically specific space where a postnominal relative realizes its semantic-syntactic abilities. Compatibility of postnominal relatives may be very narrow, limited to one or two lexemes, and very broad, limited only by objective or predicative nature of the vocabulary. The study of syntagmatic characteristics of several postnominal relatives reveal several typical context: evaluative, modal, existential, comparative and illustrative. The composition of a typical context correlates with the semantic of postnominal relatives and may be used as one of the classifying traits to describe the system of prepositional neoformations in general.
