"The nutcracker" by P. Tchaikovsky and D. Boivin: analysis of post-modernist performance interpretations in a musical theatre

The article deals with an artistic interpretation of a performance in experience of a postmodernist musical theatre. Studying the case of the contemporary choreographic interpretation of the ballet ‘The Nutcracker’ by P.I. Tchaikovsky for the first time ever the author investigates the processes of decentration of the initial content structure in the course of the performance interpretation. The article corroborates a theory about the shift of a semantic dominant and emergence of new variants of the semantic focus of a text when making a complicated musical performance.
