In the everyday life of Russian economists, the word “simulated” behavior is increasingly used. This concept is used when the appearance of a need is artificially created and consumers are driven not by necessity in order to satisfy it, but by completely different goals. The purpose of the study. Consider not only the qualitative characteristics of a product or product, but also its status, prestige, and style, which is formed through mass media and is exclusively a product of information technology. To prepare the article, as a result of the research, scientific papers and educational literature were studied, various methods of comparative analysis and abstract-logical methods were applied. The formation of simulated consumer behavior increases the added value of goods, products or services, thereby creating a precedent for biased assessment of consumer market sectors and their imbalance. This fact may bring the economy of the industry, and later the country, to a crisis state. The history of economics knows many examples when regressive phenomena were preceded by a sharp and galloping scientific and technical development of the state’s economy, which was based on economic rationality. However, the use of scientific and technological achievements no longer fits into the accepted criteria of rationality, has a destructive effect on nature and unbalances the ecological balance. This is because there is disharmony, a lag in public consciousness and, consequently, public relations from the possibilities of technological progress.
