The symbol as the basis of the ornamental composition in Crimean art of stained glass

The article considers ornamentation as a kind of decorative art, the concept of a symbol in ornamental composition is studied. The article deals with the semiotic value of the color and forms of various elements of ornament in the Crimean stained-glass windows of the religious buildings. The stained-glass windows of the Roman Catholic Church of the Immaculate Conception of Holy Mother of God in Yalta and stained-glass windows made according to the sketches of the Crimean artist Arsen Rustamov in the Juma-Jami Mosque of Evpatoria are also analyzed in this article. The article also highlights the symbolic features of traditional motifs in these stained-glasspaintings.
