The symbolic politics in the socio-cultural space of the city (case study of Saint-Petersburg)

The article deals with the ways of social construction of political identity within the socio-cultural space of the modern Saint-Petersburg. The author scrutinizes the symbolic politics carried out by the city authorities, which uses the political myth as a means of political symbolization of the everyday city life in such communicative and visual forms of commemoration as architecture, sculpture, toponymy and public representation of political events.
