The symbolical character of an ornament used by the indigenous people of the Russian North

The article analyses the figurative system of the ornamental art in the context of symbol creation in the framework of the philosophy of art. Symbolization is discussed by case study of the artworks created by the indigenous people of the Russian North. The ornamental system is considered as expression of the originality of the Nenets art picture of the world. It has been proved that the art outlook of Nenets is embodied by means of the ornamental images including geometrical, floral and zoomorphic symbolism. It is shown that the zoomorphic ornament is the leading ornament in the Nenets' artworks.
