Simbolism of colour in A.S. Byatt's story "The thing in the forest"

In this article the symbolism of colour motifs in the story The Thing in the Forest (Little Black Book of Stories) by a contemporary British writer A.S. Byatt is being analysed. Special attention is paid to the ambiguity of the colour black (as well as red and white), its connection with the motifs of grey, ashes, mist, faded, dirty colours and the place of the black among other colours. The role of colour in creating and understanding the images of the main characters is being considered.
