Significant number of clinical trials demonstrate an increased risk of cardiovascular diseases and their complications in patients who suffer from insomnia or sleep-related breathing disturbances. Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is the most clinically significant disease of sleep-related breathing disturbances. We have analyzed a large amount of accumulated literature on this topic in recent years. Timely detection of sleep disorders, in particular OSA, as well as their treatment allows for timely prevention of cardiovascular mortality. This group of patients has an increased risk of early death, and therefore OSA requires active verification and treatment in routine clinical practice.
