The article analyzes the parataxis structure functioning features in Boris Pasternak’s prose. Analysis of parataxis structures in terms of text formation raises questions of homogeneity, the order of components, conditionality and compatibility principles. The article aims to identify the cognitive motivation and text parameters of parataxis syntactic structure. Parataxis is studied from the perspective of text formation, mainly with the help of text-centered and cognitive methods of analysis. The subjects of analysis were the fragments of the novel Doctor Zhivago, with their main structural element being paratactic series based on different types of homogeneity. The term “homogeneity”, in our broad understanding, is based on the lexico-semantic, functional and communicative proximity of the series components. This enables to include into such constructions not only simple sentence structures with homogeneous parts of the sentence but also the sequences of simple sentences. The expansion of the series structure enhances its communicative importance and forms the setting for the transfer of the internal monologue or the stream of consciousness. Integration of parataxis components is often based on subjective pragmatic and emotive synonymy, as well as the pragmatic equalization of components. The order of components in a series structure is often based on probabilistic preferences and occasional hierarchies. The analyzed syntactic constructions are involved in the formation of sententious type of narration. The juxtaposition relationships within coordinate syntactic sequences become an additional condition for the formation of the montage principle.
