The author reviews and explains the synthesis of genres in B. K. Zaytsev’s story "Heart of Abraham” which is a literary and artistic Apocrypha. The study explains that for the purpose of creating author’s apocrypha writers reworked plots from canonical works recognized by the Orthodox Church for their unquestioned authority (the events from the Bible and literature on the life of the saints) and retold them resorting to portraying literary and folkloric genres, i.e. synthesized them with other literary genres, creating in their original art space an original narrative line associated with the religious and spiritual, and in particular, Christian views. Purpose of the article is to explain the influence of the synthesis of genres on creation of the phenomenon of literary and artistic apocrypha.
