The article presents a critical analysis of two points of view on 1) the organization of the modern system of art 2) the status of representatives actors within this area of society. On the one hand, the theory of Victor Misiano is presented. Based on the concepts of post-positivity and postindustrial society, the art historian speaks about the figure of the curator - as an employee of non-material labor, who is freed from the systemic requirements of the art world. The opposite point of view is held by the theorist of art Schwerfel. According to Schwerfel, the curators in the end are also subject to systemic processes, like the rest of the workers associated with art. The art market goes beyond the institutional definition. The objective criterion of modern development of society, therefore, is the process of capital accumulation. Both points of view have positive and negative moments. The result of the article is a proposal to create the concept of considering the history of art within the framework of the philosophical theory of a universal naturally determined process
