The paper reports the results of a research on the system of «great elements» as a methodological principle of presenting knowledge in Buddhist cultures, as a unified code language that makes it possible to describe phenomena of different levels of reality. A description of the phenomenon of suffering in terms of the system of «great elements» is used here as a model of this code language applicability.
