Traces as sources of information about a person who committed a fraud on the Internet

The development of information technologies contributes to an increase in criminal assaults committed using the Internet. Internet fraud as a relatively new phenomenon has a high degree of latency, which makes it difficult to identify the person who committed the crime. The main sources of forensic information about the offender for such crimes are traces. Timely identification and comprehensive investigation of them helps to increase the effectiveness of the investigation and disclosure of fraud on the Internet. However, the successful implementation of this direction is determined by the need to address the debatable issues of understanding the varieties of traces and their essential content. The article analyzes individual problems of interpretation of the concepts of material, ideal and virtual traces in forensics. Informational significance is disclosed from the position of determining the properties and conditions of the person who committed fraud on the Internet.
