The article deals with the contribution of Professor Leonid Stepanovich Tarasevich in development of St. Petersburg State University of economics. Emphasis is placed on moral foundations, rules and beliefs on which he lived. Historical memory allows the University to survive in difficult conditions of the restructuring of universities. System strength tested experience of many generations and has stood the test. SPbGEU elected a new motto: "Combining the Best". It fully corresponds to the new vector of development of the University.
