In-pipe diagnostics is one of the main methods of monitoring the condition of main pipelines, which makes it possible to identify defects without the need to open them. However, the detection of deeply located defects, such as corrosion lesions, cracks and delamination of metal, is a significant challenge. This is due to the limitations of the non-destructive testing methods used, the physical properties of the materials and the operating conditions of the pipelines. This article examines the main factors that make it difficult to identify hidden defects, analyzes modern diagnostic technologies and suggests possible ways to improve the effectiveness of control.
