The example of K. D. Balmont's modernised elegy: the poem "Going is airy may. My sky is growing gloomy..."

The article is concerned with the phenomenon of modernisation of the elegiac genre, a poem of the poet-symbolist K.D. Balmont serving as an example. The role of elegiac contexts in the formation of the poetic style of the early Russian symbolism has been considered in it. A conclusion has been drawn that Balmont's lyrics combines actually elegiac motives with those of the civic poetry of the last quarter of the 19th century.
