The death of the old tsarina Alexandra (1614) and the Russian funeral rite of the XVI - XVII centuries

Evdokiya Bogdanovna Saburova was the rst wife of Tsarevich Ivan Ivanovich, the son of Ivan IV the Terrible. She stayed in the status of a tsarina for about a year, but lived a long life as the old Alexandra of the Suzdal Pokrovsky Monastery, occupying a high position and enjoying the benets due to a highranking nun from the ruling family. The life of old Tsarina Alexandra is relatively well documented by sources, but there is no clarity in the literature regarding the date of her death and even her name. This study publishes a document related to the burial of the old Tsarina Alexandra, complementing her biography and ideas about the medieval funeral rite of the XVI - XVII centuries.
