The author considers the dynamics, main trends, and territorial specifics of deaths from homicides in the provinces of the European part of Russia during the period consequent upon the abolition of serfdom (1870-1893). The empirical base of the research was the annual register “Violent and Sudden Deaths in the Russian Empire” published by the Central Statistical Committee of the Interior Ministry. The article provides analysis of the distribution of deaths from intended murders by sex and residence, and the data on deaths from homicides in the largest cities of the country. Provinces of the Russian Empire are classified by the rate of deaths from intended murders per year.
