The article is devoted to the study of the legislative regulation of mixed marriages in the Synodal period. Te theological and canonical problem of officiating such marriages dates back to the earliest years of Christianity, namely, to the apostolic period in the history of the Church. However, the process of the emergence of this phenomenon as a very widespread public institution begins almost simultaneously with the onset of the Synodal period. It is during this time that church marriage law in the Russian Orthodox Church receives the highest development. Based on the study and analysis of extensive normative material, as well as historical facts, the author traces the development of legislative regulations, notes their stability in the Synodal era and shows that the problem of mixed marriages remains relevant throughout the history of the state: disputes on this very controversial issue were conducted at the Local Council of the Russian Orthodox Church in 1917-1918, then during the preparation of the Pan-Orthodox Council during the Soviet period of domestic history. Separately, the author touches upon the current state of the institution of mixed marriage and notes the continuity of practice of the Russian Orthodox Church with the pre- Revolutionary tradition and with the pan-Orthodox approach to this issue
