Food security during the Great Patriotic War was one of the guarantors of the defenсe capability of our state. The tasks of ensuring it were implemented both at the level of the Soviet Union authorities and in the regions. An analysis of the regulatory legal acts of the national region of the USSR - the Bashkir Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic - demonstrates the focus on solving a number of key issues of supplying the population with food. These include rationing of all segments of the population through ration cards, guaranteed supply of workers at enterprises through the creation of departments for workers' supply, care for the nutrition of children and adolescents, and provision of nutrition for the evacuated population. The system of measures taken was able to ensure the survival of the country and strengthen its defence capability. A reference to the resolutions of the Council of People's Commissars of Bashkiria demonstrates the parallelism of decisions taken at the all-Union level and in the republic. The regulatory legal acts of the Bashkir ASSR as a whole reflect the documents adopted at the level of the USSR, while the “Bashkir case” itself is an interesting object for studying the life of the rear areas during the Great Patriotic War.
