The article presents the results of an analysis of the impact of cattle numbers on food security. The priority goal of the food security program is to maintain the health of the nation. A decrease in the share of external sources of agricultural products is recognized as one of the main factors in ensuring the food security of a country. The development of their own agriculture, and, in particular, animal husbandry, is an integral part of the food security program. Recently, there was an increase in the incidence of certain diseases among the population. The increase occurs not only in absolute values but also per 100,000 of population. Doctors mention not only an increase in the number of diseases but also their “juvenation”. Young people begin to seek help from medical institutions more often with diseases that were previously diagnosed, as a rule, only in people of retirement age. Cardiovascular diseases, heart attacks, strokes, hypertension, endocrine diseases, allergies, and neoplasms – these are diseases, the causes of which doctors recognize as certain food preferences. The study was conducted on the basis of state statistics and other official sources. Cattle are traditionally the main source of natural animal protein. The study is devoted to establishing possible links between the dynamics of the number of cattle and the incidence of certain categories of diseases. The analysis of dynamic series was carried out using statistical data and determines general trends characteristic of the entire territory of Russia. Special attention is paid to the situation in the regions of the Southern Federal District. Based on the results of the study, measures aimed at improvement of the quality of agricultural products and their processed products are suggested.
