Events at Khalkhin Gol in 1939 as Reflected in Periodicals of the Buryat-Mongolian Autonomous Socialist Soviet Republic

The article considers the events at Khalkhin Gol in 1939 as reflected in the periodicals of the Buryat-Mongol ASSR. Using content analysis of Buryat-Mongol ASSR periodicals such as “Buryat-Mongolian Truth” and “Buryad-Mongoloy Űnen,” the historical context preceding and during the Khalkhin Gol events is recreated. The article reconstructs the domestic and international situation and the reaction of Soviet society during the Khalkhin Gol events. It concludes that periodicals played an important role in shaping public opinion and Soviet political ideology, as well as serving as valuable historical sources for studying the events at Khalkhin Gol in 1939 through the lens of historical memory.
