The author shows signs of mass media universalism, identifies thematic focus, social and territorial scope of publication, describes the main heroes of the regional weekly publications. The presentation of different social groups in mass media should be fairly balanced. The study shows that overall the weekly “Inform-Polis” and “The New Buryatia” have not achieved such a result. One can see unevenness in attention to different segments of society in both newspapers. The processes of differentiation and universalism may become the two main ways to solve the problem of information inequality in coverage of characters from different social groups. Both newspapers focus on more renowned part of the population. Although mass media is essentially universal, but there is certain information inequality.
